The international contest FIS in cross-country skiing of seniors and juniors is the oldest Slovak cross-country skiing contest. It was originated in honor of Zvolen skier and mountain climber of the Czech origin Jan Bezrouk in 1946. He was killed by German fascists during the Slovak National Uprising. It takes place in Skalka, where its track replicates the part of the White Track's southern lap. Competitors can earn here the so called FIS-points for their participation in the World Cup.
Every winter competitors compete to earn points in the Slovak Cup and also medals in the Slovak Championship here in Skalka. The contests are for all categories, from youth to veterans. Some of the contests have the hallmark of nomination battles for participation in the international events, such as: World Championship of Juniors and Competitors under 23, World Winter Universiade, European Winter Youth Olympic Festival - EYOF. The world class competitors, such as Martin Bajčičák, Ivan Báthory and Alena Procházková also participate in the contests.
The tradition of organizing of Grand Prix of the Town of Kremnica in Cross-Country Skiing was originated in the 70's of the previous century. Men compete for a touring trophy in main category. It used to be 15km cross-country lap in the beginning. During the previou years the Grand Prix of the Town of Kremnica has taken place in Skalka with some breaks, not every year. The traditional 15km lap was substituted also with other disciplines.
